Rust had a rocky start back when it was released in 2018. However, as the game received more updates, it quickly became a better version of itself. Players and critics alike grew to enjoy the game. More players started coming in and the online survival video game’s player base became more expansive.
PC, PlayStation, and Xbox players started crowding Rust for its enjoyable combat gameplay and heavy emphasis on survival. Many of these players would have friends who are playing on a different console from theirs. Some of the best online video games of today acknowledge this by incorporating a cross-platform feature in their games.
Can the same be said about Rust?
Rust’s Console Cross-platform
Rust does indeed support cross-platform. However, it isn’t implemented across the board. Rust only supports cross-platform between the PlayStation and Xbox and not on PC. This means PlayStation players can play Rust with Xbox players and the other way around. Players of both consoles will not be able to play with Rust players on PC.
Conversely, PC players will only be able to play with other PC players.
Most players can guess why Rust’s cross-platform feature is set up this way. A lot of players believe the game plays highly differently when played with a keyboard and a mouse as opposed to playing with a controller. Although PC players can also play the game using a controller, most players who play shooters find the combination of a keyboard and a mouse much more comfortable.
That said, Facepunch Studios, the developers behind Rust, may have made the decision to completely separate PC and console players.
Can I Play GTA 5 with Players on Different Platforms?
Yes, GTA 5 is now available with cross-platform functionality, allowing players to connect and play with others regardless of their gaming platform. This improved gta 5 cross platform availability enables gamers on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox to join forces and engage in multiplayer mayhem together. Finally, gamers can unite and experience the world of Grand Theft Auto 5 collectively, regardless of their platform preference.
Will This Cross-Platform Implementation Change?
As of 2022, it’s vastly unknown whether or not Facepunch Studios will ever implement a cross-platform feature for Rust that will allow PC players to play with console players. However, it’s definitely not completely impossible.
Since its release, the studio has made changes to the game that made it more enjoyable for players. If a vast majority of the game’s player base calls for this change, the studio may just hear their calls.
However, it should also be noted that the game’s player base as of 2022 isn’t that massive anymore. Despite how many players call for this change, if there even are anymore, it may not be enough for the developers to spend time and resources on a PC-to-console cross-platform feature.
That said, one can only hope.
